Air Quality

The air you breathe daily is so important for your health. If you have any health problems like asthma, you pay attention to air quality. Often, we don’t realize that the air in our homes can be more polluted than that outside. Opening a window for 15 minutes is a simple way to replenish your inside air.

You improve your indoor air quality with adequate ventilation, good filtration, proper humidification, and periodic duct cleaning. Changing standard air filters every 6 months is a must. We include standard filters in our seasonal maintenance plan. If you have indoor pets, you need to change filters more frequently. Pet dander clogs the filters. Filtration needs change. Family members can develop respiratory problems.  We install special filter chambers with all air conditioner and total system replacements. These chambers are compatible with ultra-violet lights and/or high capacity filters. If humidity control is a problem, we can install humidifiers /dehumidifiers. Also, we check your ventilation system and make recommendations. When duct cleaning is needed, we refer to one of our reliable partners.

We recommend smoke and carbon dioxide detectors. These simple monitors are so important to ensuring your safety.  Tulsa is often very humid in summers. New thermostats should include humidity detection. High humidity promotes bacterial and fungal growth. You want to keep humidity levels below 60%.

If you travel frequently or are often away from home, wireless systems allow you to remotely control your home air quality. We install and properly wire your chosen wireless unit.

Last but not least, we recommend lots of houseplants, which naturally help keep your air fresh. Our Doc J’s team has the expertise to diagnosis and help correct any problem with your indoor air quality to help you stay healthy and comfortable.

Dual Systems

Hybrid fuel systems in automobiles and HVAC systems are gaining popularity. The usefulness depends on your objectives and the costs of your fuels. For example, if your main goal is fuel efficiency a Honda FIT car can be as fuel efficient as many hybrids. Thirty-five miles per gallon in the city is 35 miles per gallon, whether it’s a conventional car or a hybrid. If you want fuel efficiency, less emissions, and can afford more upfronts costs then a hybrid car would be your best choice.

HVAC dual fuel systems are like hybrid cars, they use two energy sources, gas and electric to gain efficiency. Your air conditioning unit works as both a traditional cooling source and also as a heat pump. Specialized tubing, circuits and valves control the hybrid system.  These additions allow your system to use both the hot and cold cycle of your “refrigerant” which gives you warm or cool air as needed. Follow the link if you want to know more about the mechanics of dual fuel systems.

In Tulsa, if you use natural gas and have a 90% to 95% AFUE furnace, dual fuel systems aren’t more efficient. Nor will they save you money. But, if you have all electric or use liquid petroleum products, dual systems could be more efficient and save you money. Our contractor reviews your consumption and costs. Then present the pros and cons of installing a dual fuel system.

Humidity Systems

Humidity control helps maintain comfort and air quality in your home. High humidity is a problem in Tulsa, especially during spring and summer. Basements and attics can be humidity problems all year long.  High or low humidity we have solutions.

High humidity can aggravate respiratory conditions, warp furniture and promote mildew and mold. Dehumidifiers, stand-alone or integrated units lower humidity. Dehumidifiers alone may not be enough. Increase ventilation by modifying duct systems necessary.

Aggressively insulating your home makes your home very fuel efficient. Your home may be so tight that humidity rises. We design for maximum insulation with enough ventilation.

We honestly check your humidity needs and only recommend what is need. If a free-standing dehumidifier will be enough, then that will be our recommendation. Whatever your situation, we can help.

Water Heaters/Plumbing

Water heaters guzzle energy. Water heaters can account for up to 30% of your home’s energy consumption, so efficiency is very important. Check EnergyStar before you have one placed or replaced. We install, repair and replace all types of water heaters, gas, electric or tankless (on demand).

Before buying a water heater, consider your household hot water demands. These can differ a lot. A family of six that runs the dishwasher, washing machine and two showers simultaneously  needs more hot water than a single homeowner. Most families only need one water heater. But if needed we install two water heater tanks in parallel or series.

If pre-planned, we replace garbage disposals or leaky faucets. Call Doc J’s and we will give you a complimentary estimate for replacing or modifying your water heater(s).
